Asthma by the Royal Children's Hospital

Asthma is a common condition caused by the narrowing of the small air passages in the lungs. The narrowing happens when air passages become swollen and inflamed, causing more mucus to be produced. In addition, the muscle bands around the air passages become tighter. These changes make it harder for air to get in and out of the lungs, and cause wheeze, cough and problems with breathing.
