Summary: Melbourne Water’s drainage rate provides the funding for a wide range of drainage upgrades and waterway management services. The rate is levied on property owners to enable Melbourne Water to undertake works on main drains, rivers and creeks throughout the greater Melbourne area, covering the catchments of Port Phillip and Westernport. The drainage rate is not for supplying drainage services to individual properties (usually a local council or landowner responsibility).
