Avoiding unnecessary imaging for joint and back pain

Women who experience back and joint pain may believe they need imaging of the joints, such as an X-ray or MRI, to investigate and diagnose their pain. However, in most women with back or joint pain, this is not recommended as it does not help joint pain or back pain improve faster. Unnecessary imaging can also have disadvantages, as it can add extra costs and worry and may delay getting the most appropriate treatment.
