Croup by the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network
Croup is a common childhood illness caused by viruses. It makes the voice box (larynx) and windpipe (trachea) swell and produce excess mucus, leading to breathing difficulties and a distinctive bark-like cough.
It’s most common in winter and usually affects children aged six months to three years, as their airways are smaller and softer.
