Depression and dementia
Depression is common in people with dementia and can range from a temporary reaction to an ongoing condition requiring treatment. Symptoms may include:
- Loss of interest in activities
- Low energy and appetite
- Sleep changes
- Feelings of guilt or sadness
- Agitation or increased confusion
Recognising and addressing depression can greatly improve quality of life.
