Depression and dementia

Depression is common in people with dementia and can range from a temporary reaction to an ongoing condition requiring treatment. Symptoms may include:

  • Loss of interest in activities
  • Low energy and appetite
  • Sleep changes
  • Feelings of guilt or sadness
  • Agitation or increased confusion

Recognising and addressing depression can greatly improve quality of life.
